January 3, 2017Carrum Fishing Report – October 2016
The 2016 Snapper Season is well & truly here. In the past two weeks we have experienced the best start to a Melbourne Snapper season we have seen in years and years. With the average fish weighing over 5kg and fish over 7kg on every trip so far it has been absolutely incredible. Fingers crossed the fishing remains this consistent for the rest of the season.
Although the bay is currently loaded with big Snapper they are still quite isolated and fish are holding in very tight schools. On most trips so far it has been common where only one side of the boat will catch fish as that is the side that the school is on. Most of our fish so far have come from 18m+ water depth from Frankston to Mordialloc with the odd fish taken in 12m or less. in terms of baits, Silver Whiting has been the massive standout with the odd fish falling to a Pilchard.
I also wanted to mention that Imagine That has been fitted with some new electronics including a top of the line SS175Hw Fishfinding, wide beam transducer. Have a look below at some of the Snapper Soundings we have created using this awesome technology. If you want to see Port Phillip Bay Snapper on your sounder when they are under your boat give Matt Davey from Hooked Up Marine a call 0439-598-891. He is the Guru installer of modern marine electronics, Can’t thank you enough Matty!!
