3/1/2017 Fishing Report – Snapper by the thousands, KGW beginning to show!

Hi Everybody, We would like to begin firstly by wishing all of our Customers & Followers a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. May 2017 bring us health & happiness and maybe even a few fish.

Where to start? All we can say is SNAPPER SNAPPER SNAPPER!!! From early December until date we have experienced a massive abundance of school sized Snapper swarm the areas from Mt Eliza through to Aspendale. With Bag Out session on 90% of our recent trips, the fishing has been phenomenal. Although difficult to initially locate, once they are found you will find you are catching them as if they were King George Whiting one after another. You may have also found the bites to be a little subtle compared to recent years, this has required a change in technique fishing with open bails or baitrunners to let the fish swallow the bait before gradually striking. The Fish are ranging between 1 – 4kg with the odd thumper in the mix. Silver Whiting as always the bait of choice but now is also the opportunity to give soft plastics a go while the fishing is hot!

Imagine That is now berthed at Martha Cove, Safety Beach Victoria. Do not let this worry you if wanting to target Snapper as the fish are now moving south with cooler water down the peninsula. We ran our first trip from Safety Beach on Friday and found Snapper to 5kg instantly. These fish should continue to hang around until late January before moving further South and out of the Bay.

On the Whiting front big numbers of fish are beginning to filter through with fish holding at Dromana, Rye & Tootgarook. The quality of fish have been fantastic with  many fish over 40cm. The Calamari have also be predominant throughout the entire peninsula with catches from Oliver’s Hill, all the way down to Portsea reported.
